Mother and son fire & drum

A magical moment that will forever pull on my fiery mommy heart strings.

The above video was shot in my backyard on a particularly warm and hazy September eve, during what we refer to here as "Indian Summer".

My 8 year old (7 at the time) son Mikha's "special week-end bed time" came and went but I didn't care. I craved his companionship. He had matured so much over the summer and I loved hearing his thoughts, his ideas, his hopes, his fears and dreams.. Simply put, I was madly in love with the little man he was becoming. Not to mention that by this point he has become (and still is) my trustworthy fire safety spotter. (Never light up without one, boys and girls!)

The "killing frost" had taken place the previous week, which meant Old Man Winter was stirring. You could smell it in the air. Very soon we would be rocking our Poofy Parkas, shoveling, scraping, shivering and pumping ourselves full of "stay happy" vitamin D. Joy.

That evening, time had no role amongst us, hours held no importance. The cooling wind of change danced and fluttered against us like playful silk ribbons. The air is light, the flow felt right and my fire burned bright. Suddenly, without warning (nor training), Mikha picked up a hand drum and began free-styling some groovy eclectic percussion beats, channeling his inner artist and Kitschissipirini spirit in a way I had never seen him do before!

Magic!?

No.

Better.

The universe was simply unfolding as it should.

Super awesome eery fact:

The word equinox is Latin, meaning"equal night". On the autumnal equinox, the Sun crosses the celestial equator going southward, meaning it rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west, harmoniously aligned like ying and yang.

Miss Spelld performs at the Athens Cornfest!

Although dark clouds threatened last Saturday's Cornfest in Athens, Ontario, the rain politely waited and Main street was booming with haeppy families and the sweet smell of corn! (Yum!).
Miss Spelld lit up the intersection with her fire spinning performance from 1:30 to 4:30, bringing along some practice poi for anyone wanting to give spinning a try. Special thank you to Melanie for this amazing opportunity!
